You will usually be able to get an appointment with a doctor within 24 hours and with a doctor of your choice if you can wait longer.
It is usually best to make all your appointments with the same doctor or with one of two doctors – your “usual” doctors. You can choose to do this by asking for one of those two doctors each time. Some doctors who have been in the practice a long time will be heavily booked up and you might find it helpful to get to know one of the new doctors and ask them if they'll be one of your “usual” doctors.
Please make a separate appointment for each person who needs to be seen and help the receptionist by giving them the information they need. If you have an appointment please arrive on time, let the receptionist know you are waiting or sign in using our electronic system. Please also stay in the building because if the doctor is able they will call you early to save you waiting.
The reception staff may ask you some basic questions about why you need an appointment. This is to enable them to make sure that you get an appointment with the right person at an appropriate time. For example, it may sometimes be more appropriate for you to see one of the practice nurses rather than your GP.
Reception staff, like all members of the healthcare team, are bound by strict confidentiality rules. You can ask to speak to a receptionist in private away from the front desk if you prefer. If you feel that an issue is very private and you do not wish to tell the receptionist why you need an appointment, this will be respected.
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly. Appointments are available between 08:30 - 12:30 and 14:00 - 17:30.
Appointments with the healthcare assistant are available on a Thursday between 09:30 and 11:00. You can see the healthcare assistant for blood pressure checks, new patient checks and blood tests. The healthcare assistant also holds a phlebotomy clinic on Monday afternoons.
The practice has links to interpretation and translation services and we can arrange for an Interpreter to sit in on your appointment or be available on the end of the phone. Reception can arrange this for you at the time the appointment is booked.

Unfortunately a number of people do not attend their appointments. For the month of December 379 patients did not attend their GP or nurse appointment. This means that around 3.5 hours of clinician time was wasted every day.
Please always remember to cancel your appointment if you cannot attend as demand for appointments is extremely high. For every appointment wasted another patient has longer to wait.
We are now able to offer text message appointment reminders. When you contact the surgery the receptionist will ask you if you would like text appointment reminders. Please give your own mobile number when signing up for text reminders, not that of a family member. If you have asked for reminders but are not receiving them please let us know.
Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. If you do need a home visit please phone us before 10am if possible.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.
If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).
It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.
You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.
The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

This is a teaching practice and we often have junior doctors and nurses in training. You will be asked for your permission to have a student sitting in on your consultation - no one will mind if you say no.
Sometimes a doctor may use a video to record consultations as part of their education. Again we will ask your permission and you can have the camera switched off or the recording erased if you wish.
We usually have a GP in training working under supervision at the surgery. They are qualified doctors who are now training to become GPs. They spend six months or one year at the surgery at a time, depending on what stage of training they are at.
We also have an FY2 doctor working under supervision - FY2 stands for foundation year 2. FY2s are qualified doctors who have completed their first year of clinical practice. They each spend four months at the surgery. Our current FY2 is:
